Smaller Bigger

FYI

I gained about 35-40 pounds this pregnancy, like I have during every pregnancy. For some strange reason, I lost all of it within two weeks after I had the baby. It just fell off. Weird, but a nice surprise. I think a lot of the weight gain must have been blood and fluids.

I still have 25 pounds to lose if I want to get to where I was before I became a mom. I would like to do that before Christmas.

I turn forty on Wednesday.

I’d like to lose this weight while I’m forty. I also want to get back into my old swimming/yoga/hiking routine.

If I do, what should I treat myself to? I need some ideas. A yoga spa retreat? A short trip somewhere?

If you have a goal that you want to set for this year let me know. You can try to reach it while I’m forty, too. It’ll be fun. What will you treat yourself to?

Yes! I want to do this! I have to think about my goal though. I’ll be back later.

Me too! I am very careful of how I set my goals so as not to disappoint myself.

I’m too tired to think of a major goal right now. I think a Spa Weekend should be your goal, however. :)

    Awesome.

I think a one day/one night retreat is all we could afford in time/money, but even a night alone in a nice hotel sounds good to me, without all the spa and yoga stuff.

Ooh, either a yoga retreat or a spa weekend sounds like a delightful reward! My major goal is to finish revisions of my book and be ready to start querying agents by Christmas. Scary but very exciting! I’m on track so far. Good luck with your goals!

Whenever I tried to lose weight while nursing — especially when I tried to cut back on carbs — my milk supply dropped way down. So I stopped trying. I know this is an issue for some women, since so much energy is needed for milk production, and I seemed to need the dense, nutrient rich foods. So be careful — maybe focus on exercise rather than dieting, for the time being?

Right now, however, I’m definitely trying to lose the weight. I need to lose 30 pounds (or more) to go to get back to pre-pregnancy weight. I’ve started yoga and dancing again and I even went bike-riding last week! :) I bought an unlimited “summer blast” card at our local yoga center to keep me motivated until teaching starts again.

What on earth?? It’s a tho some fertile muse slipped out of your, what does Mary call that organ? when you gave birth to little brother. Maybe all this writing is taking off the pounds…
My goal is and has been to lose the 20 to get down to my pre-mom weight. I rationalize it by saying I was underweight at 113 and I also know that, at 57 I would look like a refugee at that weight. I’d call it even to lose 10, get to 123 and the reward would be a fly fishing weekend in Montana. I’m working on it and I’d be delighted to do it while you’re 40 and before I’m 58! Say- Happy happy birthday tomorrow! Look at you Raehan, with your beautiful family and creative spirit and sweet, sweet life! Forty will be the best year…

I began my Ultimate Weight Loss Forever plan last June, and out of the 44 pounds I wanted to drop, I’ve lost 34 of them. So, I extended my timeline to December and WILL lose those last stinkin’ 10 pounds!

DH and I are rewarding ourselves with an anniversary/Christmas/birthday trip to an all-inclusive resort somewhere south of the US and on a beach…looking for a cabana boy that can carry a HUGE fruity beverage to my chaise lounge each morning.

Sis, It is supposed to be safe to lose one pound a week while I’m nursing, and if i go at that pace I should reach my goal by late Fall. We’ll see what happens.

A spa retreat sounds a great idea.

If I can’t reach my goal while I was 40 then maybe I can reach it while you are. That is a lot of pressure on you. I’ll have to think about what my goal will be. I’ll get back to you.

I know better than to set goadls for myself physically - they never get met. But I want to wish you a Happy Birthday tomorrow - and good luck with your goals. I’d do a great spa weekend, if I were you.

Yay for losing all that pregnancy weight! What a nice treat.

That’s great that you have a goal of getting back in shape and losing weight. I might suggest a trip up to Oregon as a reward to yourself :) Or, as you mentioned, just a night away sounds lovely too. Perhaps–although this might be bigger than you are wanting to do–a writing seminar, or a creativity retreat? I’ve read about some fabulous ones that I’ve been dying to go to. My goal for the rest of the year is to enjoy all the changes that will happen as we build the house, and not stress out too much. I’ll reward myself with a dozen rose bushes outside our new house.

Happy 40th Birthday!!! I hope you have a fabulous day.

Yay for you losing your pregnancy weight! I’m SO jealous, because it’s been 9 (almost 10) years since I had a baby, and I STILL have pregnancy weight. I’ve tried to lose it (again) and I’m down 10 lbs from the start of the year. The STRESS of this moving stuff is getting to me. I’ve got to find (make) time for myself to exercise, because I’d like to lose (a lot) before the end of the year. My knees are hurting again. *sigh*

I’m on a mission to get more healthy (and lose 20 lbs. in the process) right now too!

After 2 C-sections… my treat to myself upon meeting my weight loss goal is to get a tummy tuck to remove all the lose flesh hanging off my belly (ackkk!!!) I know surgery sounds drastic, but it truly is what I want. My belly is just a bunch of loose flesh, and it really bothers me.

For you, I think a hotel night away sounds great - maybe combine it with a concert or a music festival, or whatever kind of activity you really enjoy.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! I wish I were thrilled for you that the weight “just fell off” but I am an evil b*tch and women like that (like you) really burn my butt. Since I love you so much it hardly matters ;-) Heh.

I doubt I’ll ever meet my goal. The more I work out the more my body stays the same. Frustrating, really…

I hope whatever you are doing today, it is perfect. You deserve the happiest of birthdays, my friend.
    xo
